The Road

to Better

Ford’s purpose has always been bigger than building vehicles.

We are driven by a desire to build a better world: To improve the lives of our people, the communities we call home, and the planet we all share.

Our goal is to be carbon neutral by 2050: Vehicles, operations, and supply chain.

It’s going to take work. But that’s what we do best. This is the road we’re on at Ford.

The Road to Better.

Our Electrifying Future

“Our industry is experiencing change at a remarkable rate and magnitude, and Ford is seizing this opportunity to lead and help build a better world.”
Bill Ford and Jim Farley

Ford offers a range of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles to suit almost every need, providing more choice on the path to carbon neutral transportation.

Nowhere was Ford’s EV leadership more evident than in the truck category.

Ford is a leader in the hybrid pickup truck market.1

We also sold more electric pickup trucks than everybody else put together.1

The electric pickups sold by Ford in 2023 could save about 1.9 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in their lifetime.2

Which is equivalent to the carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere in one year by 2 million acres of forest.3

That’s 3 times the size of the Olympic National Forest in Washington.4

Ford’s commitment to an electric future doesn’t stop at building great EVs.

For people to feel comfortable making the switch to EVs, they have to know they can conveniently and reliably charge their vehicles, wherever and whenever they need to.

Most charging in the U.S. – about 80%, according to the Department of Energy – is done at home. That’s because most driving happens close to home.

But for our customers who do need access to public chargers, we have been expanding Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network to over 128,000 chargers across North America.8

And now, Ford customers can access 15,000+ Tesla Superchargers across North America with a free adapter – instantly expanding our already-robust public charging network.9

The Ford F-Series:
A Legacy of Innovation

The Ford F-Series truck is America’s best-selling pickup for 47 years.10

We’ve been on a decades-long mission, investing billions to make the F-series more sustainable – while also improving its power and performance.

No tradeoffs necessary.

A Closer Look at America's Favorite Truck

Surprising Sustainable Materials

We use many unexpected recycled materials in the F-Series: seat fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles; sound deadening made from denim scraps; underbody covers made from used tires; and wiring harnesses made from rice husks, to name just a few.

EcoBoost Engine Technology

Our innovative 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine combines turbocharging, direct injection, and a streamlined design. With impressive overall performance, EcoBoost provides the muscle of a bigger displacement engine with fuel economy in mind.

Aluminum Body Construction

We changed the F-Series’ body from steel to military-grade aluminum, reducing the truck’s weight. This improved fuel efficiency and lowered emissions, while allowing us to expand the payload and increase towing capacity.4

Hybrid Powertrain

The Ford PowerBoost full-hybrid powertrain enhances fuel efficiency with fewer tailpipe emissions than a traditional internal combustion vehicle.

Going Electric

The F-150 Lightning offers customers the choice to go electric with all of the features and capability they’ve come to expect from F-Series.

Sustainable Manufacturing

“As always for Ford, we are focused on both what we build and how we build. We’ve continued to push ourselves on environmental quality, which includes conserving water, reducing waste and transitioning our company to carbon-free electricity. It’s what our customers and our neighbors expect from Ford.”

Responsible Supply Chain

Today’s automobiles are incredibly complex. Every Ford vehicle contains components and materials sourced from suppliers all over the world.

Our goal is to ensure that the materials we use are extracted in a sustainable way, and that the people doing the work are treated fairly.

Take batteries. It takes hundreds of suppliers from around the world to provide batteries to Ford.

Ford is leading our industry in supply chain mapping and auditing. To date, we have mapped 5 suppliers that provide Ford with batteries for our vehicles

And 146 suppliers that provide our suppliers with raw materials and components for those batteries

We’ve audited 24% of our mapped battery supply chain - with more to come.

That is why the advocacy group Lead the Charge - which evaluates companies based on the sustainability and equity of their EV supply chains - ranks Ford #1 in the automotive industry.
